What is an ARN Code?

The AMFI Registration Number (ARN) is a unique identification code issued by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). It is mandatory for anyone who wishes to sell or distribute mutual funds and earn trailing commissions.

Step-by-Step Process to Get Your ARN Code

Step 1: Pass the NISM Series V-A Exam

Before you can even apply for an ARN, you must pass the NISM Series V-A Mutual Fund Distributors Certification Examination.

Step 2: Keep Your Documents Ready

You will need the following documents in digital format:
  • PAN Card copy
  • Aadhaar Card copy
  • Passport size photograph
  • Cancelled Cheque (for bank account linking)
  • NISM Passing Certificate

Step 3: Register on the AMFI/CAMS Online Portal

AMFI has mandated CAMS to process ARN applications. You can apply entirely online:
  • Visit the CAMS online ARN registration portal.
  • Select 'New ARN Registration'.
  • Enter your details as per your PAN and NISM certificate.
  • Step 4: Pay the ARN Registration Fee

The fee for individual ARN registration is ₹1,500 + GST (₹1,770 total). This can be paid online during the application process.

Step 5: Complete KYD (Know Your Distributor)

As part of the application, you must complete the KYD process. This involves biometric verification and uploading your documents. Many times, this is integrated seamlessly into the online application using Aadhaar-based eKYC.

    Step 6: Receive Your ARN

Once your application and payment are verified, your ARN code will be generated and emailed to you within 2 to 3 working days. You will also receive a physical ARN card at your registered address.

How to Start Distributing After Getting Your ARN

Once you have your ARN, you need to empanel with Asset Management Companies (AMCs) or use a national distributor platform (like NJ Wealth or Prudent) to start selling their schemes and earning commissions.
